How do you utilise your creativity to generate income? This seminar will delve into the different ways artists are using their entrepreneurial skills to make money and look at the possibilities and realities of working as a creative practitioner.

Hear from innovative South Australian artists from different creative disciplines on how they are building a career in their chosen fields and carving out a place for themselves in the competitive arts world.

A panel featuring Erin Fowler (dancer/choreographer), Alice Potter (jeweller/visual artist), Dan Thorpe (musician/composer) and Morgan Wright (film producer/director) will offer their hard-earned insights into what it takes to craft the job of your dreams using your talent, contacts and drive.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • How to juggle different streams/roles within your arts practice
  • How to diversify your creative income streams
  • How to manage your work/art balance
  • How grants and funding play a role in building a sustainable career
  • What role networks and collaborations might play in developing your career
  • The importance of self-promotion, and ways in which to hone your hustle

The seminar will be facilitated by Jennifer Greer Holmes, freelance consultant and creative producer.

Helpmann Academy is proud to introduce our new Activate Professional Development Seminar Series.

The series aims to empower emerging visual and performing artists with practical knowledge to help build and sustain a successful creative career.

The Activate Seminar Series will present guest artists, specialists and panels covering a range of topics such as contract and intellectual property law, income and funding options, marketing and publicity, and more.

WHEN: Tuesday 3 December 5:15pm for a 5:30pm start -7:00pm, followed by networking drinks.

WHERE: Minor Works Building, off Stamford Court, between Sturt Street and Wright Street, Adelaide
