SA Power Networks Emerging Artist Commission
Valued at up to $11,500, the SA Power Networks Emerging Artist Commission is an opportunity for an emerging visual artist to gain valuable experience in developing public art and site-specific commissions.
SA Power Networks is commissioning a contemporary sculpture that reflects their position in the South Australian community – as the State’s electricity distributor, a major employer and contributor to the SA community, and as an innovator in the electricity industry nationally.
Although it is not a requirement of the project, the site-specific sculpture can incorporate recycled materials sourced from SA Power Networks. These materials include both ceramic and metal elements from the electricity network (such as ceramic insulators; wood, glass and metal meters; and aluminium cable). It is anticipated the artwork will remain on-site for a period of 3 years or more.
The successful applicant/s will be encouraged to work with an established mentor with a focus on delivering public art commissions. Additional funding is available for mentorship fees.
Visual Arts Graduates and final year students from Adelaide College of the Arts or University of South Australia are eligible to apply. The applicants must have graduated from a Bachelor of Visual Arts BVA or BVA (hons) in the last five years, demonstrate excellence in their work and a commitment to building a career as a professional artist. Masters and PHD students and graduates are also eligible to apply (provided they graduated from BVA or BVA (hons) in the last five years). Submissions are open to individuals or teams of graduates/students, provided all applicants meet other criteria.
