HELPMANN ACADEMY INREVIEW MENTORSHIP
Are you a creative with aspirations of applying your craft to professional review and critique?
The Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship seeks to develop the next generation of arts reviewers and re-build the practice of robust discourse and analysis of South Australian performing and visual arts.
The mentoring program, a partnership between Helpmann Academy and InReview, will connect experienced arts writers with emerging voices, as part of a project to strengthen coverage of arts and culture in South Australia. This collaboration is part of InReview, a sub-site of InDaily which publishes credible arts journalism and cultural commentary each week.
The successful mentee will be matched with an InReview mentor/s who will be assigned based on the interests and background of the mentee. The mentor/s work with them in all aspects of writing reviews as well as providing career advice. The mentorship will be conducted over eight hours per week for 10 weeks. Throughout the program, the mentee will build their skills with the aim to produce a number of written reviews for publication on InReview.
“I’ve learned so much from my mentors, they’ve been so generous with their feedback and their time. I didn’t really understand where the standard was leaving uni, and the mentorship has been so valuable in really accelerating my growth as a writer. Without having the chance to work so closely with such experienced people in the industry, it would have taken me so much longer to develop and work out where that industry standard is.” Inaugural InReview Mentorship recipient Michelle Wakim
