2021 Elevate Mentorships Round 1

Five emerging creatives from a range of creative disciplines will undertake career expanding mentorships through Helpmann Academy’s Elevate Mentorship program.

The Elevate Mentorship program has been leveraging the entrepreneurial success of established creative professionals to build the capabilities of emerging creatives since 2002.

The full list of mentorships that have been funded are:

Susie Jane Althorp – the emerging visual artist and Flinders University Honours graduate will be mentored by visual artist Catherine Truman, who will provide guidance in the conceptual development and technical advancement of Susie’s practice.

Alicia Butt – the emerging ceramicist and Flinders University graduate will be mentored by ceramicist Yuro Cuchor with the aim to expand her skills in mould making and slip casting.

Amber Cronin – the emerging visual artist and University of South Australia Honours graduate will be mentored by sculptor and public artist Jason Waterhouse who will assist Amber in mounting an exhibition of new work and applying her practice and key concepts to new technical horizons.

Brendan Godfrey – the emerging filmmaker and University of South Australia graduate will be mentored by experienced filmmakers Tom Phillips and Jeremy Kelly-Bakker from We Made A Thing Studios in order to develop his skillset in producing larger scale projects. A focus of the mentorship will be the development of Brendan’s drag queen western concept – The Good, The Drag, and the Ugly.

Brianna Speight – the emerging photographer and University of South Australia Honours graduate will be mentored by curator/writer Eleanor Scicchitano who will provide Brianna with support to achieve strong exhibition outcomes; an action plan for moving towards future goals; participate in opportunities for professional development; and develop research areas.
