praxis ARTSPACE Residency

The Helpmann Academy is thrilled to announce the recipients of its new studio residency at praxis ARTSPACE.

University of South Australia graduate Danny Jarratt and Flinders University graduate Anna Revesz have each been awarded six-month residencies at the creative hub in Bowden starting in March 2021. The recipients were announced at theOpening Night of the 2021 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition on Friday 29 January 2021.

praxis ARTSPACE Studios was established in January 2019, and comprises 12 artists’ studios. Sitting adjacent to praxis ARTSPACE Gallery, this space is focused on supporting a diverse range of artistic talent through its studios and exhibition program.

The residency encourages teamwork in a creative environment, and provides the opportunity for artists to experiment, play and take risks developing new work – while also providing the recipients the opportunity to be mentored in curatorial practices by Director, Patty Chehade and Curator, Gabi Lane.

Photographer Anna Revesz is excited to expand her skills and engage with a new artistic community.

“During my time at praxis, I hope to further develop the photographic aspect of my practice, but to also experiment with sculpture and installation works. Having my own space to leave works-in-progress and practical experiments will allow me to really interrogate my processes and give me the room (both physically and mentally) to develop new ideas. Being surrounded by so many other artists who work across a wide variety of mediums will also allow me to extend my techniques, concepts and perspectives in new and exciting ways.”

Visual artist Danny Jarratt has high hopes of developing a strong and fruitful career in the arts through this space.

“I hope that this residency helps to expand the quantity and quality of art I am making. I want to review, examine and create more resolved work in this space. This year, marks an important time in my practice. I aim to dedicate significantly more time to my practice and I aim to make it a major source of income for 2021.”
