SA Power Networks Stobie Pole Project
5 May 2022
Four South Australian emerging visual artists have been selected to take part in the SA Power Networks Stobie Pole Project.
Chloe Noble (Flinders University graduate), Danny Jarratt (University of South Australia), Miriam Sims (University of South Australia) and Neville Cichon (University of South Australia) will be creating a series of public artworks embracing an SA icon, the Stobie Pole, to be installed on several Stobie Poles in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council area.
The project is a partnership between Helpmann Academy and SA Power Networks and will engage multi-disciplinary artist Dave Court to mentor the group of emerging creatives on their designs. The process will include masterclasses run by Dave, along with the development of ideas and collaboration between the established artist and the team of selected artists at Post Office Projects Gallery+Studios in Port Adelaide.
Chloe Noble says that she is excited about forming new creative relationships through the project.
“I have a very strong interest in collaboration and believe this opportunity will allow me to form new relationships with fellow artists and within the Adelaide arts community. Being able to assist and be engaged in a project like the Stobie Pole Project is an ideal next step in my career as someone who is enthusiastic about working within the arts and learning new skills in mural painting and public art.”
Miriam Sims says she is looking forward to expanding her practice into site specific works.
“I’m excited to move beyond making work that is site-responsive and towards developing a practice that is site-specific. It’s a thrilling prospect to have my work in public spaces and interacted with on a more permanent basis then in a performance or workshop setting. The mentorship from Dave will be invaluable considering his multidisciplinary practice, especially how he has developed a particular visual style for entering and transforming spaces through paint.”
It is anticipated that artworks will remain on-site for a period of two years or more.
