Teddy Dunn wins 2016 Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Award

21 October 2016

Teddy Dunn, an emerging director/dramaturg, and Flinders University Drama Centre graduate has been awarded the 2016 Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Award for best arts graduate, valued at $5,000.

The annual Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Award recognises the achievements of a top graduate from South Australia’s tertiary education institutions and is awarded to an outstanding nominee who demonstrates excellence and commitment to working in their creative field. Nominations are submitted by Department Heads of Helpmann’s partner institutions.

Teddy graduated from the Flinders University Drama Centre in 2015 with First Class Honours and a University Medal. Teddy has already worked on six plays in 2016, three of which were supported by Helpmann Academy. Most recently he directed State Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of Red Sky Morning, starring Stephen Sheehan, Julie Wood and Rachel Burke.

The award was presented to Teddy by Richard Fennell, Chief Financial Officer of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, at Helpmann Academy’s 2016 Wrap Up Party held at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, on Thursday 20 October.

Teddy says of winning the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Award, “receiving this award makes me feel supported in many ways. Most precious to me is the vote of confidence in me as an emerging artist; the respect and appreciation of my work. That is invaluable, and I am so grateful for it.”

Jane MacFarlane, Helpmann Academy CEO, said that Teddy demonstrated the tenacity required to succeed in a highly competitive industry. “Teddy’s passion, commitment and drive is inspiring. He is the complete package, and we look forward to watching his career develop with increasing success.”

Teddy emerged as the winner from an impressive field of finalists including Rachel Burke, acting graduate from Flinders University Drama Centre, Steven Cybulka, visual arts graduate from The University of South Australia, Emmaline Zanelli, visual arts graduate from Adelaide College of the Arts, Miranda Hampton, acting graduate from Adelaide College of the Arts, and Tyson Olson, dance graduate from Adelaide College of the Arts.

Congratulations Teddy!
